The
Florida A&M University Chapter of SISTUHS, Inc. was
officially founded on the campus of Florida A&M University
on March 21, 1999. The Executive Board, composed of 16
innovative women, was inducted on Sunday, March 21, 1999.
On April 3, 1999, the FAMU chapter inducted 29 members,
leading to a total of 45 members. On Sunday, November 7,
1999, the FAMU chapter also inducted 81 innovative and
glorious new SISTUHS.
For the past decade, SISTUHS, Inc. has been a driving
force on the campus of Florida A&M as well as in
the surrounding community. FAMU SISTUHS has participated
in the following walks annually: American Heart Walk,
Gobble Wobble, March of Dimes, and The Leukemia and Lymphoma
Light the Night Walk.
On campus FAMU SISTUHS executed campus and road clean
ups, participated in the Sigma Sleepout for the homeless,
and held can food and clothing drives. The chapter was
also handpicked to volunteer with the Essence College
Tour when it visited Florida A&M University. In addition,
in the spring of 2003 the chapter received Student Activities'
Organization of the Year Award.
The following young ladies who founded the Chapter and
served as the first Elected and Appointed Executive Board
Members while upholding each of our acronyms to the highest
possible caliber: Sarrena Williams, Novia Knight, Renee
Lemonier, TaVona Boggs, Keturah Lee, Kanika Frazier, Medesa
Garrett, Amber Butler, Tamara Gordon, Kizmeche Atterbury,
Alexis Smalls, Paulina Bolton, Melinda Wylie, Diana Lee,
Genè Means, and Bridgette Evans.
